If you haven't given kefir a try, it's finally time. Not only is this creamy drink an excellent source of probiotics, but it also keeps your digestion moving, helps support your immune system, and gives your bones a boost of calcium. The health benefits of kefir are numerous, and while you could just drink it solo, we love the idea of using its tangy taste in a healthy smoothie.

The banana, date, and hemp smoothie recipe below is from Lifeway Foods' The Kefir Cookbook, which has creative ways to incorporate kefir into every meal (including dessert!). This smoothie is an amazing way to kickstart your day, thanks to creamy kefir, potassium-packed banana, fiber- and antioxidant-rich dates, and a dose of protein from peanut butter. This superfood smoothie is rich, creamy, and a true treat that's worth waking up for.

Plus, thanks to the fermentation process, kefir is almost completely lactose-free, making it possible for most people who are lactose-intolerant to enjoy it as well.

Banana, Date, and Hemp Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup plain whole milk kefir
1 small frozen banana
1/2 cup hemp milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract
pinch of ground cinnamon, plus extra for garnish
pinch of sea salt or Himalayan pink salt
1 tablespoon peanut butter, for garnish

Directions

1. In a blender, combine all ingredients except the peanut butter and blend until you achieve your desired consistency.
2. Garnish with cinnamon and peanut butter.

How delicious (and easy!) is that? Whether you enjoy it in your to-go cup or you eat it like a smoothie bowl, you can't go wrong with this healthy morning meal.
