McDonald's Just Confirmed It's Not Bringing Back This Beloved Menu Item

Rumors have been swirling about the return of this popular food.

McDonald's devotees have had their fair share of heartbreaks when it comes to the beloved fast food restaurant's menu. Fans have mourned the Arch Deluxe, fried apple pie, and the company's salads, among countless other menu items discontinued by the fast food giant. While customers have successfully petitioned the brand to bring back some of its favorites, like the short-lived return of its Szechuan Sauce, there's one popular food item the company won't be selling again in the near future: the Snack Wrap.

In early August, a viral TikTok lamented the chain's decision to stop producing its Snack Wrap—a combination of chicken, cheese, and vegetables rolled up in a flour tortilla—that was discontinued by the brand in 2016. However, fans got a glimmer of hope from someone claiming to be a McDonald's employee in the comments section. "As a McDonald's worker: they are supposed to be coming back soon. We are waiting to hear back from corporate to get us off the limited menu," a commenter wrote.

Unfortunately, reps for the fast food chain told The Takeout it isn't so.

"Snack Wraps were removed from our national menus in the U.S. several years ago, at which point local markets and restaurants could decide to offer them locally based on customer preferences," a representative for McDonald's told the publication. "Last June, Snack Wraps were phased out as a local offering. At this time, there are no plans to bring Snack Wraps back to nationwide menus in the U.S. or Canada."

McDonald's Was Spotted Testing This New McFlurry

With a Change.org petition with over 8,500 signatures pleading for the Snack Wrap's return, many customers are left wondering why McDonald's won't heed the call.

According to one report, the answer doesn't have to do with the demand for Snack Wraps, but rather the amount of time it takes to prepare them. In 2019, Investopedia reported that preparing just the tortilla used in the Snack Wraps took McDonald's employees twice as long as it took them to assemble burgers—and that doesn't even account for the prep work required for the wrap's other ingredients or its assembly time.

Considering that the Snack Wrap cost under $2, the time spent making it simply wasn't worth the financial reward for the chain. However, that won't be enough to get Snack Wrap stans to back down—disappointed fans have already taken to Twitter to beg the company to reconsider.
