Costco Is Opening A Warehouse In This Area After Almost A Decade
So far 2022 has been all about continuing to expand the number of warehouses for Costco. Last year the warehouse chain opened over 20 new locations and is showing no signs of slowing down now. Earlier in March, the "New Locations" page on Costco.com was updated to include nine new warehouses, and in the weeks that followed two others were announced, both in brand new cities–Phoenix and another city that has been on Costco's radar for a decade.
The latest announcement involves Amherst, N.Y., a busy northern suburb of Buffalo that doesn't have a warehouse closer than Ontario, Rochester, or Syracuse, and a lot of enthusiastic Costco members that could be able to shop sooner rather than later.
"There's a lot of excitement," Supervisor Brian J. Kulpa said according to The Buffalo News. "I'm certainly glad they're coming to Amherst."
Costco has reportedly been looking for the right spot for a warehouse in the Niagara area since 2013. The Buffalo News says it considered places like Tonawanda and Cheektowaga but never decided on anything permanent until now after looking at Amherst for around two years.
The location is expected to be approved later this year, with construction starting around a year from now. If all goes according to plan the warehouse could be open for business in late 2023.
