Costco may be known for its gigantic bulk products up and down every aisle, including in the beloved bakery section. Pies, cakes, and other pastries weighing upwards of three, four, and five pounds and more are the norm—that is until recently when the warehouse chain started to debut smaller options. These items are miniature, but of course, come in large packages.
Like all the other favorites in the bakery section, these four items are known to come and go throughout the year, but with their soaring popularity, don't be surprised if more tiny versions of your favorite treats pop up soon.
Raspberry Mini Cakes with Buttercream Icing
The newest mini Costco bakery offering is the Raspberry Mini Cakes with Buttercream Icing, which were spotted in earlier June by members. Multiple social media posts were made about them, with one saying they're "the real deal."
According to social media, the miniature treat is made with vanilla cake filled with raspberry jelly on the inside, and topped with pink buttercream and white chocolate shavings. A pack of six is sold for $8.99 and weighs over 2 pounds.
Snickerdoodle Mini Cakes
Similar in size, but drastically different in flavor are the Snickerdoodle Mini Cakes that Costco introduced to the bakery section in the Fall of 2021. The treats recently made their return to Costco much to members' delight.
They feature cinnamon cake topped with cinnamon cream cheese frosting and cinnamon cake crumbles. They also come in a pack of six for $8.99—which is $1 more from when they first became available last year. Also, like the Raspberry Mini Cakes, these weigh over 44 ounces. That means each cake is about 7 ounces—or over half a pound!
Mini All American Chocolate Cakes
OG Costco members remember the All American Chocolate Cake that was a staple in the bakery section. The 7-pound cake was a chocolate-lovers dream but sadly was discontinued in 2020 along with some other iconic Costco products.
A Change.org petition with over 8,000 signatures begs for the warehouse chain to bring it back, but they will have to wait because a mini version has since been introduced. And it seems to be an okay alternative. The Mini All American Chocolate Cakes debuted in July 2021 and have since come and gone a few times.
They are made with the same triple chocolate flavors as the cake, even down to the chocolate shavings that were on the sides of it.
Mini Carrot Cakes
There are quite a few different muffin flavors in the bakery section, and mini cakes are following the trend. This Spring the Mini Carrot Cakes became available, just in time for the Easter holiday. Made with carrots, walnuts, and raisins, they are complete with a carrot made of icing on top of cream cheese frosting.
Mini Red Velvet Cakes
Before the Snickerdoodle Mini Cakes, Mini Carrot Cakes, and Raspberry Mini Cakes, there was a flavor made especially for Valentine's Day. The Mini Red Velvet Cakes were sold in the bakery section around six years ago as cupcakes but made an appearance again in late January.
Just like the other mini cake flavors, these come in a pack of six, weigh over 2.5 pounds, and are made of red velvet cake, cream cheese icing, and red velvet cake crumbles.
Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies
Mini cakes aren't the only thing the bakery section bakers have shrunk. These bite-sized cookies come in a pack of 60—yes, 60!—for $8.99 and are just smaller versions of the section's iconic Chocolate Chunk Cookies.
Mini Cranberry Orange Bisconie
Another mini bakery item at Costco are these tiny bisconie. They were first served fresh in a pack of 12 in 2020, and "Each batch is baked with cranberries and orange zest, then sprinkled with crystal sugar," Costco says on Facebook. Members love them fresh or frozen, and with coffee or plain. The boxes of 12 are $5.99.
