These Cheeses Are Being Pulled From Grocery Store Shelves in 9 States

Paris Brothers, Inc., a Kansas City-based food distribution company, has initiated a recall of more than 90 cheese products, due to the possibility of listeria contamination.

According to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall applies to eight types of cheese that were sold in grocery stores across Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and a single store each in Florida and Mississippi. The cheeses, which were sold at Fareway, Hy-Vee, Price Chopper, and other stores, include:

Cottonwood River Cheddar
D'amir Brie Double Crème French Brie
Milton Prairie Breeze White Cheddar Style
Milton Tomato Garlic Cheddar
Paris Brothers Mild Cheddar
Paris Brothers Colby Jack
Paris Brothers Pepper Jack
Cervasi Pecorino Romano

The recalled items were produced on May 4, 5, and 6, 2022, and they have the lot codes 05042022, 05052022, or 05062022. However, as the notice points out, "Individual retail outlets may have relabeled the individual consumer packages."

Although no illnesses have been reported, the FDA advises those who bought the recalled products to return them to their place of purchase for a full refund.

It's important to note that food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled. While healthy individuals who are infected may only experience short-term symptoms like high fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, young children, frail or elderly people, or those with weakened immune systems can experience serious and sometimes fatal infections.
