America's Second-Largest Pizza Chain Has a Major New Pie
Spicy food fans can rejoice. Pizza Hut has rolled out a new menu offering that's sure to bring the heat with every bite: the Spicy Lover's Pizza.
Available for just a limited time at participating locations nationwide, the new pie features a spicy marinara sauce, sliced red chili peppers, and a mixture of herbs and crushed red peppers that the chain dubs "Fiery Flakes."
Intentionally crafted for customers with a "proclivity for adventurous flavors," the Spicy Lover's Pizza comes in three varieties. The Spicy Double Pepperoni is topped with two types of pepperoni—classic and crispy cupped—while the Spicy Hawaiian Chicken is layered with chicken and pineapple to create a sweet and spicy flavor profile. The third option, Spicy Veggie, is vegetarian-friendly, with green bell peppers, red onions, and mushrooms blanketing the pie.

The latest menu addition is an expansion to the "Lover's" line of pizza recipes, which includes the Meat Lover's, Pepperoni Lover's, and Veggie Lover's pies. According to a press release, Pizza Hut's newest pie was designed to "adapt to a new wave of pizza lovers." The chain pinpointed customers' growing appetite for spicy food, along with the "spicy void in the pizza space" as the inspiration behind the menu item.
The launch of the Spicy Lover's Pizza comes at a time when numerous pizza chains are shaking up their menu offerings in creative ways. This month, Little Caesars unveiled its new Batman Calzony in partnership with the new Batman movie, while Mellow Mushroom released two limited-time vegan pizzas in an effort to encourage customers to eat vegan in honor of Veganuary. Other recent pizza menu additions include Hungry Howie's four limited-time flatbread pizzas and Pie Five's introduction of Mike's Sticky Fingers Pizza.
