Why pomegranate juice is so good for your heart.
Pomegranates have a unique composition of nutrients that make them optimal for multiple areas of your health, including your heart.
"Pomegranates are one of the healthiest fruits for your heart because their unique antioxidants aid in the prevention of hardening and narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the heart," says Brendan.
"Not only are pomegranates high in antioxidants, but they are specifically high in polyphenols, micronutrients that reduce inflammation and stimulate circulation," says Brendan, "and a bonus with pomegranate juice is that it can provide all of the heart-health benefits of red wine without the alcohol."
Along with these heart-protecting benefits, pomegranate juice is also a good source of vitamin C, can support healthy digestion, and may reduce risk of cancer and Alzheimer's disease.
Is it safe for everyone?
Pomegranate juice is safe to drink, but Brendan warns of a few circumstances where you may want to watch your consumption.
"Before drinking pomegranate juice every day, talk to your doctor to ensure it won't interfere with any of your medications," he says, "and people with diabetes should also monitor their blood sugar levels daily if they choose pomegranate juice over whole pomegranates to maintain their blood sugar levels."
